Windows 8

Just thought I’d drop a line out there. I’ve been playing around with a Developer’s Preview (pre-beta) of Windows 8. It looks very interesting. The underlying mechanics appear to be very similar, with some notable exceptions, Windows Defender and Secured booting for one, but the UI received a huge facelift. The design approach appears to be with touchscreens and mobility in mind. The Start menu has been shifted to the entire desktop with a tiled approach better fitting a touch screen.

There has been talk that the OS will be able to be installed on a portable drive and run completely from that drive, meaning professionals could take their OS with them, and plug it into a machine with the hardware capable of running it. The Task Manager also received an overhaul.

Un-Burn a Plasma

Do you have a Plasma that has a Ghost or Shadow of TV programs passed? As scary as it is its pretty easy to fix. The quickest way to fix this problem is a simple white screen. Locate the computer input on your monitor *if you have one* and connect your laptop or desktop using a standard VGA cable. Next go to Start - Accessories - Paint. Once paint opens go to Image - Attributes, here a window will appear with the size of the image simply type 1600 x 1200 in the appropriate fields. This is to make sure the background will be large enough. Last go to View - View Bitmap and move your cursor off the screen. Now, I have seen this take up to 48hrs to completely un-burn, so be patient, after all its better alternative than purchasing a new plasma.

Telefacsimile’s or Fax Machines are an everyday must for many businesses around the world but I am sure most of them reading this blog over here are not aware about the invention of this wonderful tool which has helped many a businesses to grow so let me start with a brief history about it.

A fax means basically scanning a page to make an electronic representation of its text or graphics, compresses the data to save transmission time, and transmits it to another facsimile machine. The receiving machine decrypts the signal and uses a printer (usually built in) to make a facsimile of the original page. Several people took part in inventing the machine; they include Alexander Bain, Elisha Gray, Arthur Korn, and Edouard Beeline and took almost 140 years for the machine to be implemented in our businesses and day-to-day life. What we are using today is that of a telephone line connected to a printer that will print the page and you may take that along but the original invention goes something like this in the 1843 Alexander Bain from England devised an apparatus by connecting pendulums with 2 pens connected with the wire which showed the writing power of electricity on a conducive surface. Then chipped in Italian physicist Giovanni Caselli who devised pantelegraph based on Bain’s invention of synchronizing apparatus. Then in came Elisha Gray who designed the facsimile transmission system and tried to patent that. But finally when Edouard Beeline of France constructured the Belinograph which involves an image scanned with a powerful cylinder and beam of light that had a photoelectric cell, which could convert light, or the absence of light, into transmittable electrical impulses. Today the core design of facsimile owes to Edouard Beeline and his Belinograph. We have seen a tremendous change in the design as well as the technology and today many companies including Hewlett Packard, Xerox, Panasonic, and a host of others make Fax machines.

But the main point is the cost even though we have come a long way in terms of the design and the technology but still many companies do not have fax machines in their offices and have suffered huge losses. So the biggest question today is what do we do about this? Most of them will say that you should buy a good HP or Panasonic Fax Machines and install that in the office. But let me tell you that these machines are really very costly. Impromptu shows are a dream come true for any rock n’ roll band. Using Sound System Rentals we organized an informal event for our company’s employees. I’m glad to say the even went off very well.

We are a 3 piece band called the CorporateBS. And our stuff is mostly spoofs on a few well known songs and some original compositions. Enthralling our audience was a very vivid experience that would not have been possible with the HR of the company (the drummer) and our CFO (the bass player).

This computer and AV rental industry of ours is a very competitive industry and that is good for customers. However, there are a few companies who drop their p.......nts almost every time to steal or get business and that is terrible for the industry. They end-up changing benchmarks for the industry.

Also, most of the just brokers in this industry are a headache most of the time. They have no equipment and they sell (rent) equipment to clients and then they harass vendors with equipment to provide them equipment and labor at rock bottom prices. This is also terrible for the industry. Everyone gets sucked in this every now and then hoping that they will get more business from them. This can be a good thing if they make a company like ours as preferred vendor and be open to shared revenue.

I also understand they are all free to do whatever they want to get business, but.......

Formula for Find Aspect Ratio

The formula is very simple.

If you divide the Width by Height and get "X" (list bellow)

1.33 = 4:3
1.6 = 16:10
1.78 = 16:9

These are the most common aspect rations of LCD and Plasma Monitors that Rentfusion Carries.

True Aspect Ratio of LCD Monitors and Plasmas can be a very tricky situation. Most commonly Data or Monitor that will connect to a PC/Laptop are 16:10. Video or DVD/VHS style connectioned LCDS are usually 16:9 but some times can be different I.E. 15:9. By going into the controls of the monitor you can turn off the Zoom (wording varies by monitor) feature that will show you "True" aspect ratios. This will sometime show black bars on the sides, top and bottom, or all the way around.

There is a formula (I will type it up soon) to tell if a size of a monitor equates to be 16:9, 16:10, etc.
